Athletics: Athletics Canada Identifies Top World Junior Hopefuls

(Ottawa, June 14, 2004) – The 2004 IAAF World Junior Championships will be held in Grosetto, Italy, July 13-18, 2004. With almost eight weeks remaining until the opening of the event, Athletics Canada announced today a preliminary list of top junior athletes who have met the necessary IAAF selection standards to qualify for the Canadian team.

The following highly-ranked athletes have achieved the IAAF international standard. They will be named to the Canadian team unless they are displaced by other athletes achieving better performances between now and June 27, 2004, the end of the qualification period. The athletes must maintain their current level of performance and competitiveness, and be injury-free to assure their position on the team, which will be announced June 28th. All final selections are subject to approval by Athletics Canada’s selection committee. Based on their strong results to date, Athletics Canada looks forward to the participation of these athletes on the world junior team in July.
