Posted: July 24, 2004 Athletics: Hank Palmer Sets Saskatchewan Open Record in 100m From: Scott St. Pierre. Saskatoon, SK - Hank Palmer, of Montreal, set a new Saskatchewan Junior Open 100 Metre Record of 10.38 seconds in the qualifying rounds at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships, being held at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon. An "Sask Open" record can be set by an athlete from anywhere but is done in Saskatchewan. The old record of 10.55 seconds was set in 1987 by Brad McQuaig of Calgary. Palmer was the #2 ranked athlete in the 100m entering the meet, behind Richard Adu-Bobie, of Ottawa, who recently qualified for the Canadian Olympic Team with a 4th place performance of 10.28s at the Canadian Senior Championships. Palmer was not at the Olympic Trials, as he was in Grosseto, Italy, finishing fourth in the 200 Metres at the World Junior Championships. Palmer actually posted the 2nd fastest time at Worlds of 20.81 seconds, during the preliminary rounds. The 100 metre semi finals will be run Saturday @ 4:20pm, with the finals @ 6:40pm. The 200 metre semi finals will be run Sunday @ 11:35am, with the finals @ 2:20pm. The meet website is posting live results and photos at: www.2004canadianjuniortrack.com. Comment on this story. |
