Posted: July 30, 2004 Athletics: Athletics Canada Names 2004 Glasgow Junior Tour Team (Ottawa, July 29, 2004) – Athletics Canada is pleased to announce the Canadian team which will participate in the 2004 Glasgow Junior Tour taking place in Glasgow, Scotland from August 8 to 15. The 22-member team of top junior athletes (14 men and 8 women) will compete in three competitions at Glasgow’s Scotstoun Stadium over an eight-day period. “The Glasgow tour will be an opportunity for some of our junior athletes to gain valuable international experience,” says tour team coach Frank Reynolds. “For many of them, this will be their first international meet. We need friendly international competition opportunities like this one to keep our up-and-coming athletes involved and to give them valuable experience that will help immensely in achieving their goals and dreams in the future.” In order to qualify for selection, athletes had to achieve a pre-determined performance standard, be born in 1985 or 1986, and be among the top finishers at the 2004 National Junior Championships. The second meet is an open meet which will take place on August 11th. The tour will end with the team’s participation in the Scottish Championships, being held on August 14th and 15th.
