TORONTO, Sept. 26:

9,000 competitors, including three world record setting runners, helped make the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon one of North America's most exciting new marathons. More than $300,000 was raised for over 40 charities and the dollars are still coming in.

A very competitive field, featuring many elite athletes, participated in the marathon, half-marathon and 5 km races.

Canada's own Ed Whitlock, 73, broke his own world record, set at last year's event, becoming the fastest person over 70 to run a marathon, coming in at 02:54:48 (two hours, fifty-four minutes, forty-eight seconds).

93-year-old Fauja Singh, all the way from Ilford, U.K., broke the age category world record in the half marathon for the 90 to 95 age group, with a time of 02:30:02 (two hours, thirty minutes, two seconds).

Michal Kapral, a 32-year-old personal trainer from Toronto broke the Guinness World Record for marathon running while pushing a baby jogger. The pram pusher's record-breaking time was 02:49:43 (two hours, forty-nine minutes, forty-three seconds) which he achieved while pushing his 20-month old daughter Annike.
