Science of Sport: Chris Carmichael - Colorado’s Entrepreneur Of The Year

 Carmichael Training Systems

Celebrate Technology Coalition Honors As Leader In Technology

Colorado Springs, CO - Chris Carmichael was nominated and won the title of 2004 Holland and Hart Entrepreneur of the Year, at the Colorado Celebrate Technology Coalition Award Ceremony on Friday, October 8th. The Celebrate Technology Coalition was formed in the 1990’s as a means to recognize the achievements and contributions of the Colorado business community that allow for the advancement of the state’s technological business frontier. This year, the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year award recognized Chris Carmichael for his use of technology to transform the coaching industry.

When asked what sets Carmichael Training Systems apart from the rest of the technology field, Chris said “It is our unique coaching methodology, training system, and ability to use technology to deliver world-class coaching to individuals of all levels and abilities regardless of where they are located. Athletes can now have unlimited access to the best coaches in the world, where in the past they were extremely limited.”

As the leader of an emerging, transformed coaching industry, Chris uses new technologies in order to increase the quantity of athletes that CTS is able to serve. Prior to CTS, the coaching industry was set up in a way that discouraged the average athlete from accessing coaching services. With the introduction of CTS technology, the service was made readily available to athletes of any level and ability, encouraging them to pursue their personalized athletic endeavors.

Not only did this technology expand the coaching market, it allowed coaches to communicate the most up to date information on training, nutrition, sports psychology, and technique work, product advice, and expertise in a variety of endurance sports, to the athletic community via their coaching tool on the internet, and through personal training camps and clinics. CTS coaches currently serve 3000 member athletes in locations all over the world including North America, South America, Asia, Europe and Africa. As the Colorado Celebrate Technology Entrepreneur of the Year, Chris Carmichael will continue to raise the bar on coaching services as he leads the development of technology.

As CEO and President of Carmichael Training Systems (CTS), Inc., Chris Carmichael, was the first to spearhead innovative coaching practices using internet technology. The idea for Carmichael Training Systems was first thought up in the 1990’s when Chris was coaching cyclists for USA Cycling. He recognized the need for a technology that would allow a coach to prescribe workouts for an athlete from a remote location. With the right technology, Chris hoped to be able to offer excellent coaching, while eliminating limitations to the athlete’s training due to their location.

The rest is history. Chris formed CTS and developed a coaching tool in an innovative channel so as to deliver world-class coaching to athletes of all levels and abilities regardless of where they were located. With efforts led by Chris Carmichael, CTS technology and coaching tools are ever-evolving in order to provide world-class coaching.

Founded by Chris Carmichael in 1999, Carmichael Training Systems is a community of athletes and coaches dedicated to improving the performance and lives of athletes of all levels and disciplines. CTS works with athletes from a wide variety of sports including six-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong, 2000 Triathlon Olympic Gold Medalist Simon Whitfield, Montreal Canadiens Captain Saku Koivu, 2001 Mountain Bike World Champion Alison Dunlap, World Record Swimmer Ed Moses, and Indy Car racers Eliseo Salazar and Tony Kanaan. CTS is also the official coaching service of the US Postal Service Cycling Team, the US Paralympic Cycling Team, and the Trek/VW Mountain bike team.
