Triathlon: Kestrel Bicycles Signs Contract Extension With Pro Triathlete Chris McCormack

Hawaii Ironman Bike Area 2003

SANTA CRUZ, CA, USA – Kestrel Bicycles USA announces that it has signed a five-year contract extension with world-class professional triathlete, Chris McCormack. McCormack will continue to race and train exclusively on Kestrel’s carbon fiber frames, forks and other products.

The agreement, which covers the 2005 through 2009 calendar years, is a continuation of Kestrel’s ongoing relationship with McCormack, which began in 2001. “We couldn’t be more pleased to announced that Macca has signed with Kestrel for another five years”, said Preston Sandusky, Product & Marketing Director. “In addition to his impressive list of victories on Kestrel bikes at every distance from Olympic to Ironman, Chris is approachable, outgoing and a fantastic representative of our company and products. We believe that Macca is the most talented triathlete in the world, and we plan to sponsor him for the rest of his career”, he continued.

For his part, McCormack is also very pleased to continue such a long-term relationship. “Kestrel are a wonderful company and I thoroughly believe in their product. I had many opportunities to look at other bike options, but believe Kestrel is the best product available”, he said. “They understand triathlon like no other bicycling company and their bikes work incredibly well for me. I am ecstatic to be working with them for the rest of my career and focus on success at events that have eluded me over the past two years", McCormack concluded, referring to his ultimate goal of winning the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

McCormack, or “Macca” as he is known among his friends and fans in the triathlon world, hails from Cronulla, Australia, a beachfront suburb of Sydney. He is also part owner of Precision Cycles, a bicycle and triathlon retail store, which is also the exclusive Kestrel dealership for the Sydney area. His race wins on Kestrel bikes since 2001 include Ironman Australia (2002, 2003, 2004), the Quelle Challenge iron-distance race in Roth, Germany (2004), the Wildflower half-Ironman (2002, 2004), the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon (2001, 2002), German National Championships (2003, 2004) and the Goodwill Games triathlon (2002), among others. He is also a former International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Champion and #1 ranked athlete.
