Posted: December 13, 2004 Triathlon: Canada to Host Two ITU Continental Cups in 2005 - Caledon & Kelowna Canada will be well represented on the international triathlon scene in 2005 with two ITU Continental Cup triathlon events and two ITU World Cup events. These events provide invaluable athelte development opportunities as athletes are able to compete against an international field in their home country and earn ITU points for eligibility towards competing on the ITU World Cup circuit. The ITU confirmed this week that the July 30th Caledon Triathlon and the August 21st Kelowna Triathlon will both be ITU Continental Cup events. A Continental Cup event provides athletes the oportuntiy to earn ITU ranking points and prize money. The 2004 Caledon ITU Continental Cup events saw many of Canada's best U23 athletes compete against an international field - two Continental Cups in different regions of the country will also assist in reducing the travel costs of developing athletes. The prize purse for the events will be a minimum of US $10,000. The two longstanding ITU World Cup events, Corner Brook and Edmonton, will take place on July 17th and July 23rd respectively. It is anticipated that all four events will be televised nationally in Canada on TSN. From: Triathlon Canada. Comment on this story. |
