Posted: December 18, 2004 Triathlon: Nina Kraft suspended from Ironman events for 2 years The World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) has been awaiting a verdict from the German Triathlon Federation (DTU), following a positive drug test at this year> '> s Ironman Triathlon World Championship, On Tuesday, December 14, the DTU announced that Nina Kraft is suspended from triathlon for 2 years. This is following her positive drug test and admission to using erythropoietin (EPO) before the 2004 Ironman Triathlon World Championship. The World Triathlon Corporation debated on whether the suspension for Ironman events should be different, but decided against it." We want our athletes to know that we will not tolerate drug use at Ironman events, and we believe the DTU sanction against Nina is fair and appropriate," said Ben Fertic, WTC President." Therefore, we will not be imposing any other sanctions in this case." WTC is still awaiting an announcement from the Belgian Triathlon Federation regarding Rutger Beke's status. Beke recorded a positive drug test at a race earlier in the year, but he is appealing the verdict and maintains his innocence. A court hearing has been scheduled for January 6.
