Posted: January 4, 2005 Athletics: Inaugural Pensacola Marathon Set to Run on the Wings of the Blue Angel PENSACOLA, Fla. – On February 20, 2005, the inaugural Pensacola Marathon will bring runners to Pensacola, Florida, for a world-class running event in the same tradition that produced the twenty-one years of the Blue Angel Marathon. For over two decades, the Blue Angel Marathon provided runners a chance to participate in a marathon in Pensacola. Without wanting to go one year without a marathon, Paul Epstein and fellow organizers, quickly stepped up and devised a plan of action. Therefore, in the interest of providing the best running experience for the widest range of runners, the Pensacola Marathon will take the place of Blue Angel Marathon for 2005 and the foreseeable future. “Marathon runners are a great example of a healthy, active lifestyle at the highest level," said Paul Epstein, owner of Running Wild. "We hope everyone comes out to support this great event." The inaugural Pensacola Marathon & Half Marathon will begin at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 20, Downtown Pensacola. The route is scenic and covers a large portion of Pensacola, while some early hills will provide some challenge, later the course is primarily flat and downhill. Every finisher will receive a special inaugural medal. Race applications will be available by January 1, 2005. Entry fees are as follows: $45 for the marathon and $35 for the half marathon. A $10 fee will be added for entries received after January 13. Register on-line at www.active.com. We invite everyone to support Florida’s running scene and to come to Pensacola in February to join runners from around the country for our new event: The Pensacola Marathon - for a race that offers all that the Blue Angle Marathon offered and more. Paul Epstein at Running Wild, and fellow marathon organizers are dedicated to the encouragement of physical well being through running, jogging, racewalking, cross country, and track & field. It’s this dedication that inspired their decision to continue a marathon in Pensacola.
