Athletics: Running for a Reason at the ING Ottawa Marathon - Liz Maguire

Liz Maguire, a member of the Ottawa Athletic Club Racing Team, is one of Canada’s top marathon runners, finishing third in the 2004 Toronto Waterfront Marathon. At this year’s Race Weekend she will use her athletic skills for more than a top finish time - she will raise pledges for cancer research at The Ottawa Hospital. When Liz crosses the marathon finish line on May 29, she will have a photo of her niece, Tanya Heney, clipped to her running bib. Tanya was just six years old when she lost her battle with cancer in January 2004. “Tanya was an inspiration to everyone who knew her (and even to those who didn't) and she showed us all the true meaning of strength, courage and love,” says Liz. She hopes to raise $5,000 in pledges through the Loeb Fundrace for The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. Thousands of people like Liz will support health care during Race Weekend.
