Posted: July 21, 2005 Triathlon: Countdown to the ITU World Championship Triathlon ITU Triathlon World Championship, long distance -Fredericia, 21 July, 2005 Just two weeks to go to the 2005 ITU World Championship Triathlon, Long Distance in Fredericia, Denmark. The organising committee is in the process of finalising the registration of close to 1000 triathletes. Competitors will be arriving from a wide range of countries. Apart from the Europeans, Fredericia will play host to athletes from Brazil, Trinidad & Tobaco, Australia, New Zealand, USA and the French Antilles. The press will also be well represented in Fredericia. Journalists from Australia, Germany, England, France and Spain have so far applied for press accreditation, in addition to a strong Danish media interest including Danish National Television. Strong elite field Both the men and the women’s elite race promises to be very competitive in Fredericia. The men’s race has Germany’s Lothar Leder and reigning World Champion, Torbjørn Sindballe from Denmark among the favourites. In the women’s elite race, the 2004 World Champion Tamara Kozulina from Ukraine will be challenged by local hero Lisbeth Kristensen, who came 2nd to the Ukranian last year, and won the 2004 European Championship. Belgium’s Kathleen Smet, 4th at the Athens Olympics, and Italy’s Edith Niederfriniger, winner of the 2003 European Championship at the same course in Fredericia, are also expected to be strong contenders. 10 year Triathlon Anniversary Concert In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of international triathlon events in Fredericia, and to say thank you to the city for the amazing support the organisation has enjoyed over the years, Triathlon Fredericia will host a free concert by the Danish pop/rock band Zididada. The concert will take place at the town hall square, immediately following the World Championship opening ceremony on Thursday, 4 August at 17:15.
