Triathlon: The 2005 Hannaford Lobsterman Triathlon has been cancelled

From the race wbesite: www.lobstermantriathlon.com.

Dear Athletes:

We are sorry to announce that the 2005 Lobsterman Triathlon has been cancelled. The reason for this is due to the 2005 tide charts that just do not coordinate to provide a safe swim portion for the race.

In order to have a safe swim we need to complete the swim within 2 hours of high tide. The race was scheduled for Saturday, September 11th, which was the only date with a tide that was close to acceptable. However, high tide, only a 9 foot tide that day, is at 5am so it does not leave time to get athletes in and out of the water in time, even with an early 7 am start (the earliest we could start due to air temperature).

The absolute most important consideration of a triathlon is the safety of the athlete. We are unwilling to compromise this safety and the 2005 tide schedule will not allow us to accomplish this goal.

We will all miss the race this year, but look forward to returning in 2006! Please check back for information on the 2006 race date.

Thank you and good luck in your 2005 racing season,

The Lobsterman Triathlon
