Triathlon: PCH Athletes Take Three Wins on Weekend

Fuhr Wins 5th Ironman USA Title

Heather Fuhr won her 5th Ironman USA Championship on Sunday with a top-to-bottom rock-solid performance. Heather turned in the second fastest bike split of the day and her trademark fastest run of the day on her way to a 4:38 win. Exiting the bike-to-run transition area in 4th place and 4:35 behind the race leader, Heather mowed down the field in just 4 miles and never looked back.

Heather's 4 minute deficit off the bike was the smallest of her career. Karen Smyers, who lost over a minute to Heather in just two miles of running, was heard to say: "It's just not fair when Heather comes off the bike that close."

This was Heather's 14th career Ironman win. She is second on the all-time list behind Paula Newby-Fraser's incredible 24 wins. Heather's other career wins include Ironman California, Ironman Switzerland, Ironman Germany, Ironman Japan (3 wins), Ironman Brazil (2 wins) and the Ironman Triathlon World Championship.
