Triathlon: Ziebart named race director for Ford Ironman 70.3 Florida

BOULDER, Colo.—Ironman North America, organizers of eight Ironman events in the U.S. and Canada, have named Tom Ziebart the new race director for the Ford Ironman 70.3 Florida.

The Ford Ironman 70.3 Florida will take place for the third year at WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort in Orlando, Fla., on May 21, 2006.

Ziebart has a long history within the sport of triathlon, competing in his first event in 1982. Ziebart directed his first triathlon in 1985 and has since worked on over 300 multi-sport events over the last 20 years. Ziebart has also competed in over 200 multi-sport events and has finished four Ironman races.

“After 20 years of directing triathlons around the United States, I'm looking forward to working with Ironman North America and the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort on the Ford Ironman 70.3 Florida Triathlon,” said Ziebart. “Volunteers have already contacted us about working on the race again this year, and we will do our best to provide a world-class triathlon for the participants.”

Ziebart currently holds the title as Events Director for the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla., and helps produce multiple events, including Florida's Great Escape Triathlon, The Lake Louisa Sprint Triathlon Series, The Howey in the Hills Half Marathon and the Downtown Orlando Triathlon. Ziebart is also the race director for the Sara Lee IronKids Bread Triathlon Series as well as the Whirlpool Steelhead 70.3 Triathlon.

In addition to directing races, Ziebart has been a consultant for Gatorade at Ironman events for the past six years and has also served as race announcer at Ironman events and other major triathlons, such as The New York City Triathlon and the ITU World Age-Group Championship.
