Posted: December 16, 2005 Athletics: Cherry Blossom Sells Out In 25 Hours From David Monti © 2005 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved RaceResultsWeekly.com Race director Phil Stewart needed just 25 hours to sell out the available on-line entries for the 2006 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run scheduled for April 2. The entry process opened on Monday of this week at 10:30 a.m., and promptly closed the following day at 11:30 a.m., despite increasing the size of the field to 10,000 runners, which includes the 5-K run/walk. The limit for mail-in entries was also reached today, closing the entire entry process for the race, with the exception of elite athletes. The event is a both a top-level athletics competition and a major charity fundraiser. Juri Valdov, chairman of the Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc., announced that through the support of the sponsoring Credit Unions and the race participants, he hopes the event will raise $500,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network. This would bring the total amount of funds raised since Credit Union Miracle Day took over title sponsorship of the event in 2002 to over $1.5 million dollars to help sick children. More information is available on the event website at www.cherryblossom.org. Comment on this story. |
