Athletics: Runner's World Promotes Four Editors

NEW YORK - (December 13, 2005) - Runner's World VP/Editor-in-Chief David Willey has announced the promotions of four key editors who have played a vital role in the magazine's unprecedented success over the past two years, which has included two 2005 National Magazine Award nominations, selection to the Ad Age Magazine "A-List" this past October and the number one spot on Adweek Magazine's 2005 "Hot List" for titles under $50 million in revenue.

* Charlie Butler has been promoted to Deputy Editor from Features Editor. Butler, who joined Runner's World in May 2004, has edited some of the title's best writers and helped produce many of its strongest feature stories, including Steve Friedman's profile of Gerry Lindgren ("Lost And Found") and Chris McDougall's "Secrets of the Tarahumara," both of which received honorable mention in this year's Best American Sportswriting anthology. Butler will now also play a more active role in managing the magazine's feature well, as well as coordinating and planning assignments with Executive Editor Tish Hamilton.

* Jane Hahn, formerly the Senior Editor, will now become Features Editor. Hahn, who has been with Runner's World parent Rodale for nearly 10 years, edited the Training and Fuel sections of the magazine's front-of-the-book "Warmups" section, which earned a National Magazine Award nomination this year. In her new role, Hahn will focus on service features related to training, nutrition, weight-loss and other key areas.

* Katie Neitz has been promoted to Senior Editor from Associate Editor, where she has been responsible for the magazine's Mind+Body section and the "Personal Record" column. Neitz also produced the magazine's first-ever Design package this year, as well as the 2005 Heroes of Running package and service packages related to injury prevention, motivation and strength training. In her new role, Neitz, who has been with the magazine since 2001, will continue with most of her current duties and will also take over editorial responsibility for the Human Race section.

* Warren Greene has been promoted to Special Projects Editor from Gear Editor, where his work on the quarterly Runner's World Shoe Guides earned a 2005 National Magazine Award nomination in the Leisure Interests category. Greene, who joined the magazine in 2003 from Men's Health, will continue to manage the RW Shoe Lab and oversee the magazine's shoe reviews, while also working with Managing Editor Sean Downey to expand and improve the magazine's non-shoe gear coverage and to manage the production of each issue of Runner's World.

"Charlie, Jane, Katie and Warren have each been integral to the success of the magazine, and have helped it really establish its voice," said Willey. "I know, in their new roles, they will continue to help Runner's World grow and innovate in order to best serve our loyal readership."
