Athletics: Gear signs on as the Official Shoe of the Carlsbad Marathon

New Running Shoe, Designed and Developed in Association with the British Army’s Physical Training Corp, To Set Pace for Legendary Race

San Diego, CA (December 19, 2005) – UK Gear, the first company to design and develop a commercial product in association with the British Army Physical Training Corps, has signed on as the official shoe sponsor of the Carlsbad Marathon taking place January 15th, Carlsbad, CA. As part of the relationship, UK Gear will sponsor the marathon Pace Team, as well as the UK Gear Challenge, a race within the race.

Consisting of dedicated and talented marathoners from around the country, the UK Gear Pace Team will lead both marathoners and half-marathoners in several pace groups during the Carlsbad Marathon. They will run in the PT-03 running shoe from UK Gear, the first commercial product designed and developed in association with the British Army Physical Training Corps (APTC).

The UK Gear Pace Team will focus on helping runners maintain a steady pace throughout the marathon course, and serve as coach and cheerleader to their pace group participants. Advice, planning techniques, shoe testing and demonstrations will be available from these coaches at the UK Gear Pace Team Booth during the Carlsbad Marathon Expo.

UK Gear has also created the UK Gear Challenge, a race within the race, that awards the first male and first female to cross the finish line wearing UK Gear shoes $500, $250 cash for the runner and a $250 cash donation in the runner's name to the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, a non-profit organization that provides financial, educational, and other assistance to members of the Naval Services of the United States, eligible family members, and survivors when in need.
