Posted: December 21, 2005 Athletics: Williams named USATF Athlete of the Week INDIANAPOLIS - Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Williams has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week following his victory Sunday in the Honolulu Marathon satellite race in Iraq.A member of the 10th Mountain Division in Ft. Drum, N.Y., Williams was the first to finish the grueling event in 2 hours, 59 minutes, 57 seconds. Lt. Lauren Koban, 24, of the Army's 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky., won the women's race in 3:38:30. The race was comprised mostly of U.S. Army personnel, with a total of 187 runners competing. Now in its fifth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website.
