Athletics: Kamloops Track Club Seeks Head Coach

Kamloops Track and Field Club and The PacificSport Interior Athletics Centre Invites Applications for Club and Centre Head Coach Position

The Kamloops Track and Field Club (KTFC) in partnership with BC Athletics and the PacificSport Interior Centre - Kamloops, invites applications for the position of full time Head Coach. The successful applicant will oversee all the coaching; competition; and associated education and training programs offered by the KTFC (up to and including high performance athletes) and for the implementation of the Regional Athletics Centre Sport Plan.

KTFC has a large membership from Junior Development to Senior Competitive athletes, as well as the support of approximately 50 registered officials. The Club, with the volunteer base in Kamloops and support from the City of Kamloops has been the proud host of many track and field meets including several BCJD Championships, the Canada Summer Games and the WAVA – North American Masters T&F Championships and will host the BC Summer Games in July of 2006. We are looking forward to moving into our newly built outdoor and indoor facilities in the spring and fall of 2006, respectively. Notably, our club was the home of elite athletes Shane Niemi, Bruno Mazzota and Gary Reed. Currently, Canadian Shot Put thrower Dylan Armstrong has been joined by throws athletes from across BC, Alberta, California and Washington State. These high performance throwers are being coached by Mr. Anatoly Bondarchuk, former Olympic gold medalist and world record holder in the hammer. The remaining athletes in the Club are coached by a group of dedicated part-time coaches.

Responsibilities:

Working cooperatively with athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers the responsibilities include:

• Managing and directing the coaching structure of the KTFC and Regional Athletics Centre;
• Planning, organizing and communicating the training, training camp and competition schedules for KTFC and Regional Athletics Centre athletes;
• Delivery of coach education and training;
• Direct coaching of KTFC Club and Regional Centre athletes (ages 16 & over) primarily in the event areas of Speed and Power – Sprints, Hurdles and Jumps;
• Competition hosting;
• Communication and liaison with coaches and staff in the schools, clubs, provincial/national associations and training centres;
• Arranging facility access for athlete and coach training and competition programs;
• Providing reports, contributing to submissions and communicating effectively with the KTFC Board of Directors, it’s Members, the Regional Athletics Centre Management Committee and others as appropriate;
• Other related duties as may be assigned or contracted from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A self starter with a proven ability to work well with volunteers, committees and staff in a team environment.
• Coaching Certification - fully certified NCCP Level 3 technical in track and field or a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or an equivalent sports science program and be eligible for or have Athletics Course Conductor status.
• Experience and proven record in: Coaching at the Club/School/University level; Management; Program Design/Implementation; Planning; and Leadership within a work and/or volunteer environment.
• Computer knowledge.
• Knowledge of the sport of Athletics at the club, provincial, national and international level.
• An effective communicator, being responsible for liaison with the Club membership, the media, BC Athletics and Athletics Canada.
• The ability to oversee all programs and coaches in the club and regional centre.
• Good organizational skills.

This is a full time position located in Kamloops and will require some travelling. The salary is dependent upon training and experience. The position also provides benefits and travel support. The projected starting time is February/March, 2006.
