Posted: December 28, 2005 Triathlon: Quelle Challenge Roth, world’s largest ultra-distance race, hits capacity and closes to entry for 2006 The Quelle Challenge Roth, the world’s largest long course triathlon, has reached its capacity of 2,700 individual entries and 1,700 athletes in relay teams for 2006. This makes Roth by far the largest event on the ultra-distance calendar. “We are delighted that our concept of offering the best quality at reasonable prices, together with the famous crowds, has drawn the biggest athlete numbers again,” said race director Felix Walchshöfer. “Next year will be our fifth year as an independent race not affiliated with the World Triathlon Corporation, and we are proud that so many want to experience the magic of triathlon in Roth.” The race will also host a record number of international athletes, with 1,100 competitors expected from outside Germany—including more than 500 from France, 180 from Spain, and nearly 80 from Great Britain. International athletes make up 40 percent of the field. A few places remain for athletes who will be traveling from abroad with travel groups.
