Athletics: New Venue, New Course and New Professional Race Management for Maggie Valley Moonlight Race

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. - (July 12, 2006) - Motion Sports Management (MSM) and the Maggie Valley Area Visitors Bureau have joined forces for the 28th Maggie Valley Moonlight Race and Health, Fitness & Outdoor Expo, August 18-19, 2006. The Maggie Valley Moonlight Race is expected to draw health and fitness enthusiasts from the Western North Carolina region and around the Southeast. During past editions, the Moonlight Race has attracted upwards of 3,000 runners and past champions have included Olympians Craig Virgin, Joan Nesbit, Rod Dixon and Margaret Groos.

"The race will be supported by an extensive media campaign including a new website and four color print campaign with distribution throughout the South. The Valley is beautiful in August and we should have ideal weather for the runners," said Lynn Collins, Executive Director of the Maggie Valley Area Visitors Bureau. "We have a new certified course and new race venue at the Festival Grounds. Participants will be treated to a first-class experience including a huge post race celebration that will be open to the whole community."

The Moonlight Race includes fun activities for the entire family. The weekend event gets underway with the Health, Fitness & Outdoor Expo on Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19. On Saturday evening, the race schedule includes a competitive 8K, 5K Run and Walk, a one mile Fun Run and Kids Dash.

The Maggie Valley Moonlight Race is made possible through an alliance of MSM, the Town of Maggie Valley and the Haywood County Tourism Development Authority. The event is owned by the Maggie Valley Area Visitors Bureau and is developed with the purpose of raising awareness of Maggie Valley as a family vacation destination and to support the worthy local charities.

"We are thrilled to have an opportunity to work with another great destination event in addition to the St. Pete Beach Classic and Bay to Bay," said Wendy Johnson, President of MSM. "In addition, we want to be associated with the build up to the 30th running of the Moonlight Race in 2008. Our goal is to raise sponsorship revenue to support another large price purse event geared toward supporting U.S. Athletes to compete on the world stage."
