Triathlon: IM Canada 25th anniversary announcement

As part of the celebration of Subaru Ironman Canada’s 25th Anniversary in 2007, Ironman North America is announcing some unique opportunities to enter the 2007 race. We are offering these programs as a salute to the event and to offer the opportunity to as many athletes as possible to enjoy this great event, both who have participated in it over its long history and for whom it would be a new experience.

For athletes who have completed at least 10 Subaru Ironman Canada races, registration will open July 13, 2006. Until July 31, these athletes may enter online via active.com. They must list the years that they completed the race and their finishing time for each year. Any athletes trying to enter via this program without having completed at least 10 Subaru Ironman Canada races will be banned from racing at any future SUBARU Ironman Canada races.

In recognition of the contribution the residents of Penticton have made to the success of the event, 100 local entry spots will be made available online at active.com from July 13 -- August 20, 2006. These are open to any athlete living in Penticton or in a community located directly on the race course as well as residents from nearby Summerland and Naramata.

A special Subaru Ironman Canada Platinum Package will be available online at active.com from July 13 – August 20, 2006. This is available to all and includes a number of components. First, the athlete will receive a guaranteed entry into the 2007 25th Anniversary Race. The platinum package also has a gift package which includes a Blue Seventy Helix wetsuit, a 25th Anniversary clothing package from Zorrel, Adidas certificate redeemable at the SUBARU IRONMAN CANADA RACE VILLAGE, a 25th Anniversary Timex Ironman watch, a PowerBar gift package, a Sugoi race suit, and other special 25th Anniversary contributions from Subaru Ironman Canada partners. In addition, each Platinum package entrant will receive 2 VIP passes for all race functions including banquets and race day. Proceeds of the Platinum Package will be directed to the 25th Subaru Ironman Canada Anniversary celebration program and local charities.

General onsite registration for the 25th Anniversary race will open at 10 AM on August 28, 2006 in Penticton at the Subaru Ironman Canada race site. Each entrant must be in attendance to register, you cannot have someone else enter for you. All onsite entries will be offered through active.com, therefore payment will be by credit card only. Historically, Subaru Ironman Canada has been one of the most popular Ironman events, interest in the 25th Anniversary race is expected to be very high and therefore spots will sell out quickly. As there is a limit to how many entries can be taken for the race to ensure safety for all participants, we do anticipate that some individuals may not secure a spot at the time of general entry.

Qualifying spots at other events may not be available depending on the number of on-site registrants. Ironman North America will make an announcement on status of qualifiers in the Fall.

Subaru Ironman Canada is the oldest Ironman event in continental North America and will take place for the 24th time in Penticton, B.C. on Sunday, August 27, 2006. Athletes will be competing for 80 qualifying spots to the 2006 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii as well as a $75,000 (Cdn.) pro prize purse. For more information, log onto www.ironman.ca.
