Posted: July 18, 2006 Triathlon: Snowsill and Bennett Prevail in Nautica New York City Triathlon Snowsill Wins Two Races in Less Than 24 Hours; Duo Takes First Leg of Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series, Both Athletes in Running for $200,000 "Grand Slam Series Bonus" Life Time Fitness (NYSE:LTM - News) announced today that Emma Snowsill (AUS) and Greg Bennett (AUS) won the overall individual championships at the Nautica New York City Triathlon on Sunday, July 16. The event represents the first of four that make up the Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series. The remaining events include the 2006 Accenture Chicago Triathlon on August 27, the 2006 Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon on September 10, and 2007 Life Time Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis next July. Snowsill, who less than 24 hours before successfully defended her championship in the female division at the 2006 Life Time Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis, completed rare back-to-back victories. She topped a field of 19 women with a dominating performance in the run, crossing the finish line 2 minutes and 14 seconds ahead of Samantha McGlone (CAN). Bennett, who also competed in the Life Time Fitness race on Saturday but suffered a flat tire during the bike portion of the race, held off fellow Australian Leon Griffin by just seven seconds to take home first place at the New York City event. Introduced earlier this year, the Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series links the four most prominent Olympic distance triathlons in the United States. Any professional male and/or female triathlete (or both) who wins each of the four Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series events in a given Series year will win the Series bonus of $200,000 in addition to the prize money offered by each respective event. "What Emma was able to achieve this weekend is a truly remarkable feat," said Kevin Steele Vice President of Research and Development, Life Time Fitness. "Winning back-to-back Olympic distance races, let alone in the high heat and humidity conditions experienced at both races over the weekend, says a lot about her superior conditioning. Greg and Emma are both tremendous competitors and exceptional athletes. We are excited for the both of them as they pursue the Series bonus and we wish them the best at the Series races, leading to the Championship in Minneapolis in July of 2007." Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series Championship Held in Minneapolis, the internationally renowned Life Time Fitness Triathlon raised the bar in the sport of triathlon in 2003 with its history making $500,000 cash and prize purse and national NBC broadcast television coverage. Adding even more drama, the event's professional division features a unique timing format that allows a world-class field of professional women and men to compete on equal ground. Based upon past LTF Triathlon course results along with the results of other Olympic distance events worldwide, this timing structure allows professional women to start ahead of the professional men by a predetermined amount of time, resulting in a new and innovative competition structure and an exciting race to the finish.
