Adventure Racing: Salomon Adventure Challenge Canadian Championship, Bark Lake, ON, September 30, 2006

August 29, 2006, TORONTO, ON: The 2006 Salomon Adventure Challenge Canadian Championships (Salomon AC) promises to be the must-attend race of this adventure racing season! Returning to Bark Lake, one of the best adventure racing sites in Ontario, this 10-14 hour event will boast an incredible athlete’s village, great prizes and a tough, but exciting race course.

“We're thrilled to be returning to one of our favourite host sites, Bark Lake after several years away,” exclaimed Geoff Langford, president, Frontier Adventure Racing. “Course designer Bob Miller has so much to work with in the Haliburton area that racers are going to experience the best that Ontario has to offer. And up for grabs - free racing in 2007 for the top teams and a memorable season-ending wrap up party for everyone!”

While this event will crown the season’s championship, it is designed to be a competitive and fun race open to all levels of adventure racers. This is the opportunity to race with the best teams in Canada, on a course designed by one of the most talented and imaginative course designers, without having to qualify. The Salomon AC Champs is the perfect opportunity to cap off the season, or to try adventure racing for the first time and prepare for a full 2007 season.

The Salomon Adventure Challenge Series (est. 2001) was created to introduce even more people to authentic, wilderness multi-sport racing. The focus of this Series is fun and accessibility - probably why the Salomon Adventure Challenge has become the largest adventure racing series in Canada. Open and co-ed teams of three navigate their way across an unmarked, 40+ km racecourse in both winter and summer months. In the end, teams are treated to a 5-8 hour adventure including such disciplines as: trekking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, paddling, snowshoeing, caving, and even snowtubing! The Salomon Adventure Challenge is truly "Where Adventure Begins!"

About Frontier Adventure Racing Inc.
Adventure racing is a new sport that has exploded in popularity across North America. Frontier Adventure Racing Inc. is leading that growth in Canada with its incredibly popular Raid the North series. Now in its eighth year of operation, Frontier Adventure Racing has established an international reputation for solid logistics and challenging racecourses. These non-stop races, ranging in length from 8-hours to six-days, require coed teams of three or four to trek, mountain bike, paddle and negotiate fixed ropes, while navigating an unmarked racecourse through the wilderness. The exact course is kept secret until the night before the race and, even then, teams are only given topographical maps and grid coordinates for the checkpoints they must reach in order. Likened to an expedition with a stopwatch, adventure racing requires teamwork, perseverance and strong navigation and wilderness survival skills.
