Doha, QATAR -- A commanding victory in the women’s 1500m gave Bahrain’s Maryam Yusuf Jamal her second gold medal on the sixth and final day of athletics action in the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday.
The 23-year old, who had taken victory in the 800m race on Thursday (8-Dec), hit the front 300m into the race and never looked back taking victory in a slowish time of 4:08.63 with Japan’s Yuriko Kobayashi, on ther 18th birthday, and India’s Sinimole Puaulose winning silver and bronze, clocking 4:14.96 and 4:15.09.
“I am happy and satisfied with victory,” confirmed the world indoor 3000m bronze medallist. “Both races were not difficult for me and I am glad to have made Bahrain proud.”
In the day’s other long distance running action, Qatar’s James Kwalia hit the front with a lap to go in the men’s 5000m and took victory in 13:38.90 with Bahrain’s Musir Salem Jawher and compatriot Sultan Zaman finishing closely behind in that order.
“I planned my tactics well and I am happy with victory,” Kwalia commented.
