The Ottawa Race Weekend Athletic Scholarship is intended to assist aspiring Canadian distance athletes.
Award requirements:
• Athlete must be a Canadian citizen.
• Athlete must attend or plan to attend a Canadian post-secondary educational institution as a full-time student for the 2007-2008 academic year.
• Athlete must expect to earn under $20,000 from all sources in 2007 (including any grants or scholarships). This does NOT include any expected provincial or federal student loans.
• Athlete should be available to come to Ottawa to receive the award (the ORW will provide transportation and accommodation).
• Athlete should participate (compete and/or volunteer) in the 2007 Ottawa Race Weekend on May 26th – 27th.
• Previous winners may not apply.
• Carded athletes may not apply.
• Applications must be typed and singled-sided.
• All information must be included. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Award Criteria: Applicants will be judged based on their financial need, athletic accomplishments, athletic potential, running/community contributions and scholastic grades.
Award: $4000 CDN

Applications must be received by February 15th, 2007, in order to be considered. The award winner will be notified by April 1st, 2007.
About the Ottawa Race Weekend
The Ottawa Race Weekend, Canada's premier running festival, combines competition, participation and fundraising to make a distinctive contribution to the health of the community. The 2007 Ottawa Race Weekend will have over 30,000 participants in 6 races, including the ING Ottawa Marathon and the MDS Nordion 10K. It is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. The 2007 Race Weekend is scheduled for the May 26-27 weekend.
