Athletics: Registration is Now Open for Grandma's Marathon

Duluth, Minn.: Registration for the 31st running of Grandma's Marathon is officially open. This year’s annual 26.2-mile race is on Saturday, June 16 at 7:30 a.m.

Entry forms are being mailed today to individuals who requested them and to those who were registered for Grandma’s Marathon in 2005 or 2006. Beginning January 22, a printable version of the 2007 entry form will be available to download by visiting www.grandmasmarathon.com.

Grandma's Marathon, the 13th largest marathon in the nation, has reached its field capacity for 12 straight years. The 2007 field is limited to 9,500 participants. “The best advice we can give to anyone interested in running Grandma’s Marathon is to register quickly,” says Scott Keenan, executive director of Grandma’s Marathon.

For those who prefer to run shorter distances, Grandma's Marathon weekend also features the 17th annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the 14th annual William A. Irvin 5K. Registration for these races will begin in late-February and mid-March, respectively. To obtain entry forms for either of these races, send a note of request and a self-addressed, stamped, #10 business-size envelope to: Grandma's Marathon, P.O. Box 16234, Duluth, MN 55816.

The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon is on Saturday, June 16 at 6:30 a.m. and the William A. Irvin 5K is on Friday, June 15 at 6:00 p.m. In all, over 17,000 runners and 50,000 race fans from around the world are expected to participate in Grandma's Marathon weekend.
