The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, scheduled for Sunday, April 1, in Washington, D.C., is now recruiting athletes, according to elite athlete coordinator, Bill Orr.
"The time standards for expense consideration are sub-48:00 for men and sub-56:00 for women," said Orr in a letter sent to athletes, agents and coaches.
Part of the Professional Road Running Association circuit, the Credit Union Cherry Blossom is one of the fastest ten mile races in the world. In the previous 34 editions of the event, the 46:30 barrier has been broken 26 times on the flat loop course in the nation's capital. According to the Association of Road Running Statisticians, 19 current national 10-mile records were set at this event.
The race is offering a $32,000 prize money purse with the male and female winners to be awarded $6000 each. The complete prize money structure (12-deep) is: $6000-3000-1500-1200-1000-850-650-500-400-350-300-250. The first USA men and women will also win trips to an overseas road race.
Interested athletes and their representatives can contact Orr at borr@cherryblossom.org or +1 863-533-1476 (fax) before Feb. 9 for consideration.
