It will be "Craig against Cragg" at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games in the 3000m, meet organizers announced today.
Craig Mottram, the 2005 World Championships bronze medalist at 5000m, will open his two-race trip to the USA by facing Irishman Alistair Cragg over 3000m at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletics Facility in Boston on Jan. 27. Mottram is effectively the defending champion in the event, winning the two miles at the meet last year in 8:26.54. Cragg, who won the 3000m at this meet in both 2003 and 2005, finished third last year in 8:27.39 after being in the lead with two laps to go. Cragg was the 2005 world indoor champion at 3000m.
Organizers also announced that American Jorge Torres would be in the race, the reigning U.S. 10,000m champion.
The meet record for the event is 7:35.24 set by Haile Gebrselassie in 2004, which is also the U.S. all-comers' record.
