Athletics: Dutch named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Johnny Dutch (Clayton, N.C.) has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting a National High School record in winning the men's 55-meter hurdles at the 2007 Eastern Challenge Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The 2006 National Youth champion in the young men's 110mH and 400mH, Dutch sprinted to the finish in 7.07 seconds, eclipsing the previous mark of 7.08 seconds set by Deworski Odom in 1995.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.

2007 USATF Athlete of the Week Winners: January 2, Thomas Morgan; January 9, Jacquelyn Coward; January 16, Ryan Hall; January 23, Johnny Dutch.
