Highlights for February include:

  • A fast track, a fired up crowd and plenty of fast company. Superstar Alan Webb goes for the mile record at the New Balance Games at the Armory in upper Manhattan.
  • Frontierland, Tomorrowland, Adventureland…Fantasyland. All part of the Magic Kingdom that you may experience at the Disney World Marathon. Where hard work lets dreams come true.
  • Back to the Armory for the Women’s Mile, an eight lap showdown between Olympic hopefuls Sara Hall of California and Carmen Douma-Hussar of Canada.
  • In the United States Half Marathon Championship in Houston, a new American record with an extraordinary performance by Ryan Hall. And thousands of first timers take on the accompanying 26.2 mile distance to become “marathoners.”
  • Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe..the Valley of the Sun. P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona keeps thousands moving briskly through the Grand Canyon State.
  • “Great Moment in Racing”. 1982. Dick Beardsley and Alberto Salazar duel for 26 miles in the 86th running of the Boston Marathon but only one would wear the laurel wreath.
  • The largest race on the African continent is a festive celebration in a country where running is a way of life. The Great Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa is extraordinary in every respect.
  • Staten island. The ING New York City Marathon. Race day. The Avis wheelchair competitors take off on their five borough journey. With an adventure around every turn.
  • None dare call it work. The “Sweat in the City” feature for this month tracks some of the hot spots where metro area athletes maintain that off-season edge that comes in very handy come summertime.
