Athletics: Oregon Track Club Takes on a New Look

A new logo, a new look, a new team, and a new documentary on legendary Bill Bowerman produced by OPB were all introduced to the Oregon Track Club membership at its annual dinner meeting recently.

The new symbol adopted to represent the Oregon Track Club incorporates the timeless O signifying the track at Hayward Field, the proud Douglas Fir that represents Oregon so well, and a track spike, an obvious reference to the innovations that have occurred here in support of track & field. The new mark will appear on all Oregon Track Club communications and merchandise.

“Oregon Track Club is poised to usher in a new era in the relationship between Eugene and Track & Field,” said Club president Mike Olsen. “The new logo honors the past but has a strong focus on the future.”

The new mark will also appear on the competition singlets of the recently formed Oregon Track Club Elite, coached by Frank Gagliano. Team members were introduced to the membership of the Oregon Track Club last Tuesday night, and the crowd of more than 200 was impressed at the concentration of elite talent competing for the Oregon Track Club.

In light of the prominence of the new Oregon Track Club Elite team, serving as host to the 2008 Olympic Trials – Track & Field at Hayward Field, and the strong UO collegiate track & field and cross country teams competing under Coach Vin Lananna, the mood of the annual dinner was very enthusiastic as club members honored a prominent and storied past, and embraced a strong, bright future. Both of which are well represented in the new logo of the Oregon Track Club.

The Oregon Track Club logo, and information and athlete biographies on the Oregon Track Club Elite can be found at www.oregontrackclub.org. Merchandise with the new logo will be available on-line or at the track during the upcoming season.
