Athletics: Terek, Asigbee win at 2007 USA Combined Events

INDIANAPOLIS - Paul Terek and Fiona Asigbee won their respective men's and women's titles Sunday at the 2007 USA Indoor Combined Events Championships at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A 2004 Olympian, Terek led the men's heptathlon from Day 1 with 3,267 points after four events. He held off 2002 NCAA DIII decathlon champion Chris Boyles to win his third indoor crown with 5,960 points to Boyles' 5,702. Terek is the first to ever win this event three times. His previous titles came in 2003 and 2004. Ryan Olkowski was third with 5,414. Two-time defending champion Ryan Harlan ended Day 1 with 3,103 points and did not resume competition on Sunday. The runner-up at last year's event, Terek won three individual events including the long jump (7.15m/23-05.5), pole vault (5.32m/17-05.5) and 1,000 meters (2:44.39). 2005 NACAC heptathlon champion Fiona Asigbee held on to her lead by one point to win the women's pentathlon title over former Seton Hall standout Bridgette Ingram, 4,098 points to Ingram's 4,097. Asigbee's individual event win came in the women's 60-meter hurdles (8.56). The 2006 USA Combined Events champion, Lela Nelson, finished third with 3,976 points.
