Join Canada’s Largest Marathon as a Volunteer – Community Calendar Notice
VANCOUVER, March 9, 2007 – Vancouverites are being asked to show their community spirit by volunteering at the 36th annual BMO Bank of Montreal Vancouver Marathon which runs from May 3-6. Volunteers have a wide array of opportunities at any of the exciting events including the Full and Half Marathons, the McDonald’s Vancouver Kids Marafun and the Urban Lifestyle Expo.
Volunteers are needed from mid-April to race day on Sunday, May 6th. Everyone is welcome to attend an informative volunteer meeting on Saturday, March 31st from 9:00 a.m. – noon at the Kitsilano Secondary School, 2550 W. 10th Avenue, to discuss all areas of volunteer work. This will be a perfect opportunity for volunteers to ask questions and meet race directors, coordinators and the BMO Marathon staff.
Each year, 2500 volunteers are needed to help make the event a success – both for participants and for spectators in the various Vancouver neighbourhoods on the BMO Marathon Course. At this time, another 1000 more people are required as volunteers.
People of all ages and walks of life can be a part of the thrilling action at a marathon by helping on and off the course in jobs ranging from answering phones in the office, being a cycling guide, marshalling runners along the 26 mile route to distributing water to thirsty runners.
This is a great opportunity to meet new friends, learn essential skills, and by volunteering, people will receive free tickets to see the Vancouver Canadians baseball team in action, a race shirt and lunch.
