Athletics: Spirit of St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend® Launches New CEO Wellness Campaign

Governor, Mayors, County Executive and Area CEOs join the effort

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - (March 7, 2007) - Governor Matt Blunt, Mayor Francis G. Slay, County Executive Charlie Dooley, Clayton Mayor Ben Uchitelle and Debra Hollingsworth, Vice President-External Affairs AT&T Missouri, joined Nancy Lieberman, president and J. Kim Tucci, chair of Spirit of St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend® to announce the details of the organization's newest event, the CEO Wellness Campaign at a news conference held on Wednesday at St. Louis City Hall.

"The focus of the CEO Wellness Campaign is not to determine the fastest or the fittest CEO in the metropolitan area, but rather for CEOs, individually and collectively, to challenge the St. Louis community to get fit and participate in the Family Fitness Weekend on April 14 & 15, 2007," Lieberman explained.

Several area leaders are participating including: Cindy Brinkley - AT&T; Ralph Clermont - KPMG; Mike DeCola - Mississippi Lime Co; Steve Hurster - Bohn & Dawson; Tom Irwin - Civic Progress; Chris Miget - FRI Resources; Patricia Nooney - CB Richard Ellis, Inc; Vic Richey - Esco Technologies Inc; Randy Schilling - Quilogy; Gregory Smith - Husch Eppenberger; Rick Sullivan - McBride & Son Companies; Steve Sumner - Data Max; and Mike Zychinski - Deloitte & Touche.

"We are thrilled to launch the CEO Wellness Campaign as part of our efforts to inspire St. Louisans to make fitness a priority in their daily lives. Participating CEOs are wonderful role models who proactively set the stage for their employees to take action, create a healthier environment in the work place and improve the quality of life for the community," said Tucci.

In addition, Governor Matt Blunt announced that he will be running the four-person Marathon Relay. The Governor also presented Lieberman and Tucci with a proclamation recognizing the immense impact that the organization's Read, Right & Run Marathon® has on the development of children.

Nearly 3,000 students, representing 80 schools, participating in the Read, Right & Run marathon are expected to cross the finish line on race day. This accomplishment will equate to 78,000 books, 78,000 good deeds and 78,600 miles of exercise! The program has been named one of the largest children's races in the country by Running USA and endorsed by the USDA.

Each of the speakers applauded the Spirit of St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend® for their year around efforts to challenge St. Louisans to set attainable goals and get fit.

"Fitness and a healthy lifestyle are issues we cannot afford to ignore," said Mayor Francis G. Slay. "The successful future of our community depends on the overall wellness of the people who live here."

Now in its seventh year, the Spirit of St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend® is scheduled for April 14 - 15, 2007. Missouri's premier family fitness event will feature seven events designed to encourage people of all ages and athletic abilities to engage in different running and walking-related fitness activities. Nearly 17,000 people are expected to participate.
