Running relay set for April 28-29, 2007
CARLSBAD, Calif. - (March 12, 2007) - The third annual Wild Miles Adventure Relay will feature a new course and beneficiary, announced In Motion, Inc., the event organizer. The 175-mile running relay is scheduled for April 28-29, 2007.
The only event of its kind in Southern California, the Wild Miles Adventure Relay will start at Vail Lake Resort in Temecula, Calif., before heading for the coast to the finish line at San Dieguito County Park located in Del Mar. The previous course started in Borrego Springs and ended at Pine Valley in east San Diego County.
Also new in 2007 is a partnership with the Avon Foundation's Need for Speed Against Domestic Violence series. Wild Miles was selected as the official California relay in the foundation's national 10-relay series, which will raise funds to help children who are directly affected by domestic violence.
"We are very excited about our new course and our new charity," said Christine Adams, director of marketing for In Motion Inc., the event organizer. "The new start and finish are in beautiful accessible parks where friends and family can easily send off or welcome home the teams."
Funds raised will benefit San Diego County agencies and shelters that benefit victims of domestic violence. Teams are asked to raise funds to help end the cycle of domestic violence, so that no child becomes victim or abuser in the future.
Team members will trade off running all 30 legs of the challenging course. Leg distances range from four to 12 miles each and leg terrains range from off-road trails to tree-lined country lanes to the historic and scenic Highway 101. In addition to passing through rural and coastal towns, participants will enjoy views of the region's wineries, fresh lakes and varied flora.
Teams will be treated to a Finisher's Bash at San Dieguito Park where they will cross the finish line together and receive well-deserved applause, food, beer, entertainment, tee shirts and finishers' medals.
Registration is now open. Team divisions include: Corporate, Public Service, Military, All-Open and Masters. The cost is $1000 for six to 10-person teams and $500 for one to five-person teams.
