Long-established Event Continues to Focus on Community and Charity - New website launched for the event
INDIANAPOLIS – The 12th running of the Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon will hit the ground running Saturday, October 20th, 2007. The event will offer its participants a marathon, half-marathon, marathon relay, 5K and Kids Marathon along the scenic Lawton Loop on the historic Fort Harrison grounds in the Lawrence area. Registration is now available online at www.indianapolismarathon.com.
“I am truly looking forward to celebrating 12 years of the Indianapolis Marathon,” said Joel Sauer, Race Director and President of the Indianapolis Marathon Road Runners Club. “This event continues to grow in numbers, including by way of participants and money donated to the community and local charities.”
The Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon started 12 years ago when a group of dedicated runners and family members gathered themselves around a kitchen table, drawing out plans to create an event that would serve runners, walkers and the community by way of a scenic and entertaining event.
Since that day, the Indianapolis Marathon has attracted participants from Indiana and over 35 states. “Many of our participants have been a part of this marathon from its origination and that speaks volumes of our event and how we truly want it to be an event for all athletic levels and all ages,” said Sauer.
“Most importantly,” added Sauer, “This event truly gives back to the community.” The Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon have donated over $100,000 to charities with its main emphasis on K.I.D.S. Inc. (www.kidsincindiana.com). “When we started the Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon at Lawrence back in 1996, we wanted to have a grander vision beyond putting on a high-quality run/walk. We have partnered with many local charities to support the fantastic work that they have been doing.”
The Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon have also just launched its new website with the new look and feel of for 2007. This event takes place at the peak of the fall foliage and the website and marketing of the event will showcase this.
