Highlights for April, 2007 include:
- America’s fast guys come to Central Park for the USA 8k National Championship. Bring your “A” racing to this one…a shootout from the gun, with both Anthony Famiglietti and defending champion Jorge Torres predicting victory.
- Thousands answer the horn and get the message “get a screening” in the New York Colon Cancer Challenge. There’s a four miler, a 15k and a Remembrance Walk. Race founder Dr. Thomas K. Weber of Albert Einstein College of Medicine says: “It’s preventable, treatable and beatable.”
- Moving south to the Sunshine state, the USA 15k national championship at the Gate River Run in Jacksonville features 12,000 starters and the Hart Bridge hill. Olympic medalists Deena Kastor and Meb Keflezighi square off in the “equalizer” division. Good luck Meb!
- Just another day in the park? Not quite. The More Magazine Marathon and Half Marathon for women over forty draws 6,500 and an immeasurable amount of spirit, camaraderie and empowerment. A New York Road Runners event.
- A Great Moment in Racing. 2004. Central Park. The USA 8k National Championship. The fit and fast hammer it out and the winner will be set up for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
- It was only a few decades ago that there were but a handful of women participating in road races and marathons. In this “History of Women’s Running” feature: the extraordinary buildup to current day racing.
- From the four minute miler to the fourteen minute miler, from the mile to the marathon, from January to December, there’s a New York Road Runner’s event that can put you in the winner’s circle if you like to “Sweat in the City.”
