Allyson Felix, Tyson Gay to highlight adidas Track Classic

2005 World Outdoor 200m champion Allyson Felix and Tyson Gay, ranked #1 in the world over 200m by Track and Field News, both sure to be in the gold-medal hunt at the 2008 Olympics, are the first athletes set for the 2007 adidas Track Classic on May 20, 2007.

The second stop on USA Track & Field's Visa Championship Series, the adidas Track Classic will begin at noon on May 20 at The Home Depot Center, on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, and will be broadcast live on ESPN from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. ET.

Felix, 21, is among the biggest prep track stars in U.S. history and became the first track-and-field athlete to turn professional straight out of high school. A five-time California state champion while at Los Angeles Baptist High School, Felix still lives and trains in Los Angeles. She set the World Junior Record at 200m and won an Olympic silver medal in 2004, when she was just 18, and the next year was crowned 200m World Champion. Ranked #1 in the world last year at 200 meters by T&FN, she also was ranked #6 in the world at 100m. She will run the 200 at the adidas Track Classic.

Gay, the 2004 NCAA 100-meter champion out of the University of Arkansas, last season demonstrated why he is fast becoming one of the most exciting sprinters in the sport. With his 100m time of 9.84 seconds and his 200m mark of 19.68, the 24-year-old sprinted into the record books as the fastest 100m-200m combo runner in history. He finished his breakthrough year by winning the World Cup 100m and World Athletics Final 200m, and he enters the 2007 season ranked #1 in the world at 200 and #2 at 100. At the adidas Track Classic, he will run the 100m.

Dozens more Olympic and World Championship medalists will be announced soon.
