OTTAWA – Athletics Canada’s national track and field team will compete at the 113th Penn Relays this weekend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The team features 2005 World Championship medalist Tyler Christopher from Edmonton, AB who will take part in the 4x400-metre relay.
Canada’s best result last year was fourth place in the women’s 4x100-metre relay. The team consisting of Adrienne Power (Halifax, NS), Geneviève Thibault (Val Belair, QC), Esther Akinsulie (Ottawa, ON) and Erica Broomfield (Scarborough, ON) clocked in at 44.82 seconds. Returning to improve on that result are Broomfield and Thibault, reigning Canadian women’s 100-metre champion. Power and Akinsulie are back as well, competing in the 4x400-metres.

Leading the team will be three veterans from the 2004 Olympic Games. Anson Henry who ran in the 4x100-metre relay, hurdler Priscilla Lopes and 1500-metre specialist Kevin Sullivan will lead the charge at Penn’s with Olympic gold medalist Glenroy Gilbert at the helm.
