Cameron Brown will run the Formula 1 of Triathlons on 2 September: the 3rd Monaco Ironman 70.3 presented by CAL Investments Ltd.
One of the most consistent athletes in triathlon will be in Monte Carlo in September: New Zealand’s Cameron Brown will compete in Monaco, six weeks ahead of the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. In this last test before World Champs, he will run against fellow Ironman World Champion hopefuls, such as Marcel Zamora, winner of last year’s Monaco Ironman 70.3, back to defend his title!
Cameron Brown has a long list of top results in Triathlon. Besides many wins in short distance races, Brown has won six Ironman races. But he is even stronger on the 70.3 distance: He has finished first 9 times in Ironman 70.3 over the past eight years.. At the Ironman World Championship in Kona he placed in the top ten in 5 years: in 2006 he placed 8th, he came in third two times (2002 and 2003) and he placed second two times in 2001 and in 2005.
“I'm looking forward to my first visit to Monaco; it is a place I've longed to go and which has a magical appeal about it. I will be using the race as preparation for my Hawaii Ironman build up as it will be a tough race because of both the challenging course and the calibre of athletes that I will be racing against.” says Brown.
The Ironman 70.3 presented by CAL Investments Limited will take place in the Principality of Monaco for the third time. The race will start with a 1.9km open water swim on the Larvotto beach, followed by a 90km cycle lap through the hilly hinterland of Monaco. The half-marathon of 21.1km will be run along the world famous Formula 1 track. The 600 athletes from over 35 countries will finish on the most exquisite Finishline between the Casino and the Hotel de Paris. While the race course remains unchanged, the race will start at 9h00 instead of 7h00.
While on 27 May the Formula 1 will take place in Monte Carlo, triathletes from all over the world get ready for the race in the Principality on the French Riviera. More than 400 athletes have already signed up, and there will be more than 600 starting the race on 2 September. Amongst them is Marcel Zamora from Spain who won last year’s edition and who is back to defend his title. A noble particularity for the race in Monaco: the female participation is higher than in any other Ironman race: 13% of all participants are female in Monte Carlo while generally female participation reaches 10% in other races. Is it the opportunity to run between the high fashion label stores and luxury boutiques that make more woman sign up for this race?
The Monaco Ironman 70.3 distributes 100 slots for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Clearwater, Florida and an additional 30 slots for the Ironman World Championship in Kona Hawaii.
