Albuquerque, NM - Gabriela Hnilkova-Jenks, a professional duathlete and
triathlete and middle school teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico, pulled
away from the field in her first triathlon of the season to win the 30th
Annual Jay Benson Triathlon on May 13th in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The race, held at Kirtland Air Force Base at an altitude of 5,000 feet,
consisted of a "reverse triathlon" 3-mile run, 12-mile bike, and 400-meter
swim. Her time was 1:02:21, with splits of 18:41, 33:12, and 8:25,
respectively.
"It was a hard race--I was redlining the whole time," said Gabriela.
"But each segment of the race was faster than I had done at this same
race in 2006."
"To win this race despite having just recently added swimming to her
running and cycling training shows how great of an athlete Gabi is,"
said Coach Jason Karp. "As she moves into the peak part of her season,
she's going to be a force to be reckoned with."
