OTTAWA – Jessica Zelinka from London, ON finished 4th yesterday at the star-studded Hypo Combined Events Meeting in Götzis, Austria with a score of 6 343 points, improving the Canadian heptathlon record she set last year by 29 points.
The meet featured all but two of the world’s best heptathletes; “I am (and Jessica) is very happy with the results, especially considering the depth and quality of the field in Götzis. Jessica showed tremendous competitiveness and overcame difficult conditions.” said her coach Les Gramantik. Gramantik added; “This was the first step towards our goal of winning the Pan American Games later this summer and then finishing in the top 5 at the World Championships in Osaka in late August.”
How she did it
13.34 seconds in the 100-metre hurdles – 1 074 points
1.79-metres in the high jump – 966 points
13.98-metres in the shot put – 793 points
24.39 seconds in the 200-metres – 944 points
6.15-metres in the long jump – 896 points
42.71-metres in the javelin throw – 719 points
2:10.93 in the 800-metres – 951 points
Total – 6 343
Jessica will now travel to Arles, France to compete in the 10th Meeting International d’Arles taking place June 2nd and 3rd. She will travel back to Canada on June 5th.
