Athletics: 31 Canadians set to compete at NCAA Track and Field Championships

June 7 2007, OTTAWA 31 Canadian athletes are competing in Sacramento, California at the 2007 NCAA Track and Field Championships. The competition began yesterday, and will conclude on Saturday June 9.

The meet got underway yesterday with a number of Canadians already in action:

  • Curtis Moss threw 64.96-metres in the men’s javelin preliminaries and will not advance
  • Garbriella Duclos-Lasnier jumped 4-metres in the women’s pole vault and will advance
  • Jillian Drouin qualified for the next round in the women’s high jump with a mark of 1.77-metres
  • Novelle Murray achieved a throw of 52.70-metres in the women’s discus and will advance
  • Andrew Ellerton qualified to advance in the men’s 800-metres with a time of 1:48.76 in heat 2,
  • Kyle Smith will join him in the next round with a time of 1:50.01
  • Michael Leblanc ran 10.16 in the heats and advanced to the final of the men’s 100-metres with a time of 10.17 in the semi-final
  • Richard Adu-Bobie (10.29) and Justyn Warner (10.35) were eliminated in the 100-metre semis.
  • Jessica Czaikowski will not advance in the women’s 100-metre hurdles (13.37)
  • Jenna Martin won heat 1 in 53.53 seconds and will advance in the women’s 400-metres, Sherraine Pencil did not qualify (53.67)
  • Josh Karanja (8:52.91) and Travis McKay (9:18.26) did not qualify in the men’s 3000-metre steeplechase
  • Alex Becker will advance in the women’s 5000-metres (16:07.54) as well as Danette Doetzel (16:14.57), Anita Campbell did not qualify (16:28.77)
