The start lists for the this month read like a who’s who of triathlon with multiple Olympic, world and continental champions with a few Olympians and world cup winners mixed in for good measure.
Top names include: Snowsill, Fernandes, Bennett, Dillon, Tanner, Hewitt, Sweetland, Densham, Luxford, Dittmer, Gomez, Kahlefeldt, Ospaly, Robertson, Whitfield, Kemper, Docherty, Henning and Gemmell.
This record month is due to the Des Moines BG Triathlon World Cup, the richest ever event on the elite triathlon circuit with a total purse of more than US$700,000 in cash and additional prizes. The first-place winners in the mens and womens divisions will each take home paychecks of US$200,000 plus an H3 Hummer vehicle, filtering down to US$3,000 for the 15th place man and woman.
