OTTAWA – It was a busy weekend in Canadian track and field with major competitions unfolding on domestic and foreign soil. The NCAA Championships were highlighted with Andrew Ellerton from Sudbury, ON winning the 800 metres title in a time of 1:47.48. Jillian Drouin from Corunna, ON was 3rd in the heptathlon with a score of 5 822 points. Krista Woodward from New Westminster, BC was 3rd in the javelin with a mark of 53.24 metres. Michael Leblanc from Riverview, NB finished in 4th place in the 100 metres in 10.22 seconds. Leblanc ran 10.17 in the semi-finals.
In Burnaby, BC at the Harry Jerome International Track Classic Dylan Armstrong from Kamloops, BC took the shot put title with a throw of 20.72 metres.
In Eugene, Oregon at the Prefontaine Classic Tabia Charles from Pickering, ON was 3rd in the triple jump with a mark of 13.32 metres. Gary Reed from Victoria and Tyler Christopher from Edmonton were 4th in the 800 metres and 400 metres respectively.
Nicole Forrester from Toronto was 2nd in the high jump with a leap of 1.95 metres at the Meeting Lille Metropole in France.
In Abbotsford, BC at the Lafarge International Track Classic Beth Wightman was crowned the women’s Canadian 10000m champ in a time of 33:30.52 while Eric Gillis won the men’s Canadian title in a time of 29:23.36.
