NEWTON, MA - The Excellence in Facilities Award for 2007 was recently
awarded to the West Suburban YMCA by the Facility Consulting Department of
the YMCA of the USA. This Award acknowledges YMCAs that have shown a strong
dedication to their members. The West Suburban YMCA was chosen based on its
building/property practices that have increased membership growth and
efficiencies, while reducing operational costs and downtime. Strong
facilities are integral to the YMCA's goal of building strong kids, strong
families and strong communities.
There are 2,617 YMCAs in the Untied States. The West Suburban YMCA was one
of just 35 Y's singled out for recognition in the category of property
management and operations.
Over the last five years, the West Suburban YMCA has more than doubled its
membership from 3,200 in 2002 to 7,681 in 2007. In reducing costs, the 2006
window renovation to the historic brick building in Newton Corner led to a
20 percent reduction in fuel consumption. The West Suburban YMCA also worked
hard to meet the needs of its members and guests with additions to the
96-year old building such as a 10,000 sq. ft. gymnasium with an indoor
track, a 25-yard, six-lane pool, outdoor playground, and recent renovations
to the women's locker room and YMCA parking lot.
Yefim Vintsevsky, Maintenance Director represented the West Suburban YMCA in
receiving the 2007 Excellence in Facilities Award at the YMCA of USA
property management conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
