John McGovern of Hurley, NY and Jody Klaus of Sussex, NJ are top Male and Female Finishers
NEW YORK, NY – June 13, 2007 – Nearly 120 tri-state area triathletes of all ages and abilities challenged themselves this past weekend in the USAT-sanctioned 2007 SBR Triathlon at Lake Sebago, Harriman State Park in New York. John McGovern, 43, of Hurley, NY, took home top honors after completing the half mile swim, 16 mile bike ride and four mile run in 1:21:36 to narrowly edge Philip Vondra of NY City (1:22:31) by :55 seconds.
This was the second in a series of four races which comprise the 2007 SBR Triathlon Series. Registration for the August 18th and August 26th events are still ongoing at active.com. “We created the SBR Triathlon Series specifically to encourage new people to try the sport,” said Christophe Vandaele, President of SBR Multisports, host of the event. “Harriman State Park is convenient to the entire tri-state area, and the layout is perfect for novices but also grueling enough to challenge competitive triathletes. We’ve seen some old friends and plenty of new faces thus far.”
McGovern and Vondra, were followed by Baker Pool, 35, also of New York, NY who finished third at 1:25:38. Jody Klaus, 24, of Sussex, NJ, finished 21st over all and was the first female to cross the line at 1:39:15. Following is a breakdown of the winners by age and gender:
