Athletics: USATF Communications Department Announces Inaugural Rondo Reid Memorial Swag Sweepstakes

INDIANAPOLIS - The Rondo Reid Memorial Swag Sweepstakes will get off the ground this weekend at the AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the crack staff of the USATF Communications Department has announced.

We thought about having a Ron Reid Joke-Off but didn't want to risk our collective senses of humor not living up to Ron's legacy. Since Ron was the ultimate track and field writer, we have to assume that, like everybody even tangentially associated with our sport, he loved free stuff. Thus, the Rondo Reid Memorial Swag Sweepstakes.

What is it?

Each day of the 2007 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, one event will be chosen as the Event of the Day. Credentialed Media may submit to Jill Geer their prediction for the winning performance in that event. The media member coming closest to the actual winning performance gets a coupon for $20 worth of merchandise at the USATF merchandise tent. That's good for a T-shirt or hat. We don't think Ron would have gone for the more expensive lycra bodysuit, so we kept it at $20.

In the event of a tie, we'll draw names out of a sweaty hat to pick the winner. (This is Indianapolis in June we're talking about.)

Below are the events of the day:
Thursday, June 21: Gill Men's Javelin Final
Friday, June 22: AT&T Men's 100m Final
Saturday, June 23: Hershey's Women's 100m Hurdles Final
Sunday, June 24: AT&T Men's 200m Final

In addition, any writer using correct corporate entitlements for all events on the track or in the field in their printed stories - and who gets their editors to retain the entitlements in the final copy - wins anything they want.*

For more information, harangue Ms. Geer.

* As long as we say it's OK.
