GILL WOMEN'S POLE VAULT FINAL, 12:00 p.m. Key Athletes: Jenn Stuczynski, Jillian Schwartz, Niki McEwen Stuczynski has been the dominant US vaulter since bursting onto the scene in 2005, setting her latest American record with the nation's first 16-0 clearance at the Reebok meet June 2. She is best in the world so far this year. Schwartz was the USA runner-up 2006, and McEwen was third at the Reebok meet with a 14-10 3/4 vault. AT&T MEN'S 200 SEMIFINAL & FINAL, 12:00 p.m. & 2:20 p.m. Key Athletes: Tyson Gay, Wallace Spearmon, Xavier Carter All of the major players who showed up for the prelims advanced easily to the next round, led by Gay's 20.66 in the fourth heat. Spearmon won last year and went on to record the third-fastest time ever at 19.65. Carter zipped to the #2 time ever at Lausanne in '06, clocking 19.63, and he won this year's Pre Classic with a season-best 20.23. GILL MEN'S HIGH JUMP FINAL, 12:15 p.m. Key Athletes: Jesse Williams, Tora Harris, Scott Sellers, Jamie Nieto Harris won here last year and has a best of 7-6 1/2 in 2007. Williams won the NCAA title in '06 and leads the US list in '07 at 7-7 3/4, a mark he shares with current NCAA gold medalist Sellers of Kansas State. Nieto is a two-time national champ, winning in '03 and '04. VISA WOMEN'S 200 SEMIFINAL & FINAL, 12:15 p.m. Key Athletes: Allyson Felix, Rachelle Smith, Torri Edwards, Sanya Richards Felix is the defending World champion and is a silver medalist at the 2004 Olympics who has won two US titles. Smith won last year and has a best of 22.31 this season, set in winning the Reebok meet June 2. Edwards captured the national championship in 2003, while Richards will seek redemption after failing to make the team for Osaka in the 400 Saturday. MEN'S DISCUS FINAL, 12:20 p.m. Key Athletes: Ian Waltz, Jared Rome, Casey Malone Waltz and Rome have led a resurgence in US men's discus hopes, and both are among the world's best this year with a bushel of throws over 220-feet. Waltz won the national title the past two seasons after Rome took top honors in 2004. Malone has a best of 212-5 this year and was the runner-up in '06. MEN'S TRIPLE JUMP FINAL, 12:30 p.m. Key Athletes: Walter Davis, Aarik Wilson, Kenta Bell, Rafeeq Curry Davis, the reigning World indoor and outdoor champion, has won three national titles, including the last two in a row. He has a best of 55-9 3/4 this year and bounded to a huge 58-1 1/4 to win here in '06. Bell leads the US list in '07 at 56-7.5 and was runner-up last year. Wilson was a star at Indiana and finished third last year. Curry set a lifetime best of 55-1 1.2 earlier this season and was fourth in '06. WOMEN'S SHOT PUT FINAL, 12:45 p.m. Key Athletes: Jillian Camarena, Kristin Heaston, Liz Wanless Camarena is the reigning champ and leads the US list at 62-1 this season. Heaston has two US championships to her credit, while Wanless was the third-placer in '06 and has a best of 60-2 1/2 in '07. MEN'S 110 HURDLES SEMIFINAL & FINAL, 12:50 & 2:50 p.m. Key Athletes: Dominique Arnold, Allen Johnson, Terrence Trammell Arnold is the defending champ and set an American record last year with his 12.90. He won his first-round heat in 13.66. Johnson is one of the most decorated athletes in track history with an Olympic gold, four World outdoor golds and seven US titles. Trammell joined the sub-13 club with a 12.95 at the Reebok meet June 2, and has two Olympic silver medals in his trophy case. MEN'S 3000 STEEPLECHASE FINAL, 1:05 p.m. Key Athletes: Daniel Lincoln, Steve Slattery, Josh McAdams Lincoln, the defending champion and currently a medical student, set an American record last year in Rome and looked solid in his first race of the season Friday to finish second in his heat. Slattery was the runner-up in '06 and won his preliminary heat. Famiglietti won the flat 3k at the adidas Track Classic and was the winner of the first heat, while McAdams was second at the Pre Classic and has the best time by an American in '07 at 8:21.36. WOMEN'S 800 METER FINAL, 1:50 p.m. Key Athletes: Alice Schmidt, Hazel Clark, Alysia Johnson Clark, the two-time defending champion, has three US titles and she had the fastest qualifying time. Schmidt leads the US list at 1:58.75 and won the first preliminary heat. Johnson won a thrilliing NCAA 800, dipping under 2:00 with a 1:59.29. TYSON MEN'S 800 METER FINAL, 2:00 p.m. Key Athletes: Khadevis Robinson, Nick Symmonds, Lopez Lomong Robinson has won three US titles, including the last two in a row, and was ranked #7 in the world last year. Symmonds, a former NCAA Division III star at Willamette, is atop the US list with the 1:44.54 he ran to win at the Pre Classic. While Robinson leads from the front, look for Symmonds to come from well off the pace in the last 300 meters. Lomong, who won the NCAA 1500 title for Northern Arizona, set a personal best in the first round with a 1:46.28. WOMEN'S 400 HURDLES FINAL, 2:10 p.m. Key Athletes: Sheena Johnson, Sandra Glover, Tiffany Williams, Nicole Leach Johnson set the meet record of 52.95 to win on 2004, and Glover has won four US titles. Both won their semifinal heats easily, as did Williams, who had the fastest time at 54.48. Leach won the NCAA title for UCLA and has the top US time in '07 at 54.32. NIKE MEN'S 1500 METERS FINAL, 2:40 p.m. Key Athletes: Bernard Lagat, Alan Webb, Gabe Jennings, Leonel Manzano The question here is whether or not American record holder Lagat can rebound from his thrilling win in the 5000 Friday, as he has the top US times in the 1500 and mile this year. Webb has won the national title twice and has run well in the mile this season. Jennings raced to a runner-up finish in '06 and was sub-3:40 in the prelims, while NCAA runner-up Manzano is a threat if it comes down to a kickers' race. |
